Cavitation and Induced Excitation Force of Ice-Class Propeller Blocked by Ice

The presence of broken ice in the flow field around a propeller causes severe blade erosion, shafting, and hull vibration. This study investigates performance ship sailing polar regions under propeller–ice non-contact condition. To this end, we construct test platform for propeller-induced excitation force due to blockage large circulating water channel. hydrodynamic load propeller, cavitation fluctuating pressure, were measured observed by varying number ice–propeller axial distance atmospheric pressure decompression conditions. results show that fluctuation range increases with decrease distance. leads broadband characteristics frequency-domain curves thrust coefficient blade-bearing force. Under combined effects proximity, suction, circumfluence zone ice, Pirouette effect, propeller–hull vortex is generated between propeller. sharp increase amplitude high-order frequency pressure.
